About the toolkit

The Exercise and Depression Toolkit has been created for health care providers working with adults with depression in Canada.

The toolkit was designed to support health care providers in exploring exercise as a treatment option for depression in collaboration with their patient or client.

Why and how was the toolkit created?

The 2016 Canadian Network for Mood and Anxiety Treatment (CANMAT) guidelines now recommend exercise as a primary stand-alone treatment for mild-moderate depression, and in conjunction with other treatments for moderate-severe depression.

The toolkit was developed through a rigorous evidence-based process that involved consultation with adults who have lived experience with depression, health care providers, exercise professionals and researchers.

How to use the toolkit?

Instructions on how to use the toolkit are included in the Introduction document.
